AT&T has launched ultra-fast Internet service in parts of Edmond, Moore and Norman, says a recent press release from the firm. Customers will get speeds up to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) in homes, apartments and small businesses.

Internet speeds up to 1Gbps over the 100% fiber AT&T ‘GigaPower’ network are “blazing fast,” the firm said. The system will allow users to instantly access online movies, music and games, connect faster to “the cloud,” videoconferencing and more, and download 25 songs in a second, a TV show in three seconds, “or your favorite HD movie in less than 36 seconds.”

These communities join parts of the city area where AT&T launched similar service earlier this year.

“AT&T has been connecting customers in the Oklahoma City area for more than 130 years and invested billions of dollars in our wired and wireless high-speed Internet networks here and across the country,” said Steve Hahn, president, AT&T Oklahoma. “The pro-investment policies and forward-looking actions of our local leaders help make it possible. … We can’t wait to see what Oklahomans do with those speeds.”

AT&T GigaPower will offer internet speeds up to 1Gbps for as low as $90 a month.

GigaPower customers have access to the latest Wi-Fi technology. Customers may be able to choose between award-winning DIRECTTV or U-verse TV services, with have single, double and triple play offers to fit customer needs.

The AT&T GigaPower network is now available in over 1.6 million locations across 25 of the nation’s largest metro areas, with plans to expand availability of ultra-fast internet speeds in parts of 31 more areas – at least 56 metros in total. The company release said, “Ultimately, we’ll plan to reach more than 14 million residential and commercial locations with fiber.” AT&T has invested nearly $825 million in its wireless and wireline networks in Oklahoma from 2013 through 2015.

AT&T Business Fiber internet service is already available to small businesses in parts of more than 180 U.S. cities, making it possible to download and upload at speeds up to 300 megabits per second. Certain markets now have speeds up to 1 gigabit per second available over AT&T Business Fiber, with plans to expand to additional markets. It supports business applications, such as video conferencing, working in the cloud and disaster recovery.
