The second annual Rock the Boat festival on the Bricktown Canal features a full day of family-friendly activities and live music in Oklahoma City’s downtown entertainment district.

On Saturday, June 7, festivities will take place on Oklahoma Ave., between Reno and Sheridan starting at noon and will wrap up at midnight.

“We are expecting about 1200 people to come out to the Bricktown Canal for the Rock the Boat event this year,” said Jill Brown DeLozier, Director of Marketing and Community Relations.

“There’s a little bit of something for everyone with family-friendly activities during the day and more live music at some of the restaurants and bars along the canal later in the evening.”

DeLozier added, “There is plenty of parking in Bricktown, especially during the earlier hours of the event. The closest parking garage is located on the S.E. corner of Sheridan and Mickey Mantle.”

The daytime portion of the festival will begin at noon continuing until 6 p.m. It will feature pop-up retail shops, free face painting, live “kindie rock” music for the kids, a bounce house and free caricatures from noon to 3 p.m.

Local food trucks will be available providing a variety of tasty selections. There will be free water taxi tickets while supplies last, courtesy of Downtown OKC, Inc. Many Bricktown restaurants and retailers will be offering discounts.

The daytime music schedule will include performances by the Sugar Free Allstars, Jamie Bramble, Jane Tilman, Justin Young, Mini Elvis, Lisa of Chasing James and Sam Kahre.

More excitement is in store for the evening hours. The Rock the Boat “after dark” event will begin at 6 pm. and continue until midnight featuring live music at three different stages along the Bricktown Canal:

The Chevy Team Dealers Stage at Captain Norm’s Dockside Bar, 103 E. California Ave., will feature acts such as the David Castro Band and Colin Babb.

The Oklahoma Gazette Stage at RedPin Restaurant & Bowling Lounge, 200 S. Oklahoma will provide live music from bands including KALO, Allie Lauren and The Bourgeois band.

The University of Central Oklahoma Academy of Contemporary Music stage will be set up outside of the ACM@UCO building at 25 S. Oklahoma Ave.

The ACM@UCO stage will feature a variety of music genres from rock and pop to folk and Latin American. Featured ACM@UCO student bands will include Jessi Herring, Allyson Bold and The Italics, Ash Bros, the Indigos, Polar Pattern, and The Argots.

The daylong event is hosted by Downtown OKC, Inc., (DOKC) a community development organization dedicated to maintaining a vibrant downtown area. The organization supports the seven downtown districts through events and advocacy,

Created in 2000 as a not-for-profit organization, DOKC works closely with partners in both the public and private sector to ensure the greater downtown area continues to flourish.

The Rock the Boat event is free and open to the public. For more information and to view the complete lineup of live entertainment, visit downtownokc.com/RockTheBoat.
