It features exotic music reflecting the Gypsy spirit of Hungary, the Bohemian spirit of Czech nationalism, and a 20th Century reflection of the exotic tradition in our own country. This will be Brightmusic’s Second Annual Mae Ruth Swanson Memorial Concert.

Monday night March 12 performance is at Casady School in northwest OKC. Tuesday night’s March 13 presentation is at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral downtown.

The concert will feature works by 18th-19th Century Austrian composer Franz Josef Haydn, 19th Century Czech composer Bedřich Smetana and contemporary American composer Eric Ewazen. Admission is $10 per person (students with ID are free).

More information about “Musical Exoticism” (including program notes) is included in the attached press release, as well as on our website, www.brightmusic.org.

Financial support for our 2011-12 Season has been provided by Chesapeake Energy Corporation, the Oklahoma Arts Council and the Ad Astra Foundation, as well as the Civic Music Association in memory of Mae Ruth Swanson.
