Staff Report

Through the Job Placement Center at City Rescue Mission, homeless men and women are finding hope for their future and the job skills they need to make a smooth transition into society.

The Job Placement Center provides job readiness classes, which cover resume writing, interview skills, conflict management and goal planning. A computer lab is available so that clients can search for jobs and prepare their resumes. Other resources provided include job coaching, to ensure clients have a smooth and successful transition into the work force.

City Rescue Mission partners with many corporations and businesses to place clients in jobs throughout the Oklahoma City metro area. The mission provides transportation services to jobs during the first 90 days of employment as they build a financial foundation to transition back into society.

To help the mission transport clients to jobs, Chesapeake Energy Corp. donated an 18-passenger van, which has addressed a huge obstacle for many clients, said Chris Moser, job placement manager.

“City Rescue Mission’s facilitation of social services, through a holistic and solution-based approach, has profoundly impacted thousands of homeless men, women and children for more than 50 years in Oklahoma City,” said Martha Burger, Chesapeake Senior Vice President – Human and Corporate Resources. “That’s why Chesapeake is proud to partner with City Rescue Mission’s Bridge to Life program with the donation of an 18-passenger van.

“By providing the basic need of transportation to and from job trainings and interviews, our partnership serves as a hand of hope, encouraging those in need to establish themselves in the workplace and become productive and contributing members to society, a priceless benefit to both these individuals and our community.”

According to ministry information, “City Rescue Mission is a faith-based, private, nonprofit organization providing solution-based ministry to an average of 430 homeless men, women and children in the Oklahoma City metro area each day. Not only does the mission provide safe shelter and warm meals, but also a holistic approach to recovery and a variety of social services for the homeless and near homeless including medical, dental, vision care and much more.”
