The E. L. Gaylord Downtown YMCA honored Erica Bointy for her volunteerism at the Child Development Center during the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City Annual Meeting & Celebration, said communications director Dena Drabek.

“Volunteerism is at the core of the Y’s existence,” said Michele Taylor, executive director of the E. L. Gaylord Downtown YMCA. “Each of our volunteers takes an active role in bringing about meaningful, enduring change right here in their own neighborhoods.”

Bointy received the Volunteer of the Year Award for her five years of service at the Y’s Child Development Center.

Bointy’s son has been enrolled at the center since birth. During that time, she has served on the Parent Advisory Board for the Center and volunteers for a variety of activities throughout the year. Bointy also serves as a fundraiser during the Y’s Annual Community Support Campaign.

“Each of our volunteers helps move people and communities forward, delivering the benefits of good health, strong connections, greater self-confidence and a sense of security to all who seek it,” Taylor said.

The downtown YMCA is based at 500 N Broadway. The organization’s mission is to promote youth development, healthy living and social responsibility in the local community. Current officers of the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City are David Thompson, chairman; David R. Harlow, past chairman; Ford C.
