Coffee reflects on a challenging week, looks ahead

Early in last week’s scheduled encounter with the Capitol press corps, Sen. Coffee quipped, “Well, it’s four weeks down and 13 to go -- not that anyone is counting.”

In prepared remarks and in exchanges with participating news organizations, including CapitolBeatOK, on Feb. 25, the Oklahoma City Republican dealt with the full range of proposed legislation still alive at the Legislature.

Dana Orwig announces run for house district 87 seat

Oklahoma Municipal League attempting to eliminate accountability notices

Little things can make a big difference. Printed public notices in newspapers are little things, but they make a big difference when keeping government accountable to citizens and taxpayers.

It is no surprise the Oklahoma Municipal League (OML) has introduced legislative proposals to eliminate printed notices in newspapers. The OML wants you to swallow their concept that a notice on a city website is sufficient when they want to annex your property, build a dump next to your homestead or have an election.

Former presidential hopeful John Edwards’ life marked by idealism, tragedy, betrayal

The scandalous events chronicled in the recent book authored by Edwards’ one time aide Andrew Young reflect reveal a flawed but talented man who had aspired to lead our nation.

He visited Oklahoma during his campaign and admired many of the things he saw. He was well-received by local citizens.

His life was marked by a mix of the admirable and the despicable. His early efforts helped many of the less fortunate. He lost a son in a tragic car accident and his wife became ill with cancer which may one day take her life. She left him after he recently admitted he fathered a child in an adulterous relationship.

Bill to address mortgage vultures that prey on citizens with money woes

A bill authored by Rep. Anastasia Pittman, D-Oklahoma City, targets scam artists who victimize homeowners seeking to refinance their homes.

Often, the targeted homeowners are in foreclosure or near to it, after variable rate mortgage payments rocket past their ability to pay.
