Neighborhood leaders are invited to a free training in disaster preparedness Sept. 25 offered by government officials.The Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security wants to help neighborhoods throughout the state get "red dirt ready" with its new Map Your Neighborhood (MYN) program—a guide to help neighbors join together and prepare for potential disasters in their area.

An interfaith group from various religious traditions in Oklahoma's capital city held a news conference last week, calling for peace and unity in a time of challenging economic circumstances and varied observances of the anniversary of terrorist attacks on America.

The annual AIDS Walk and 5K run will be held September 19th in Oklahoma City. Come take a one-mile walk through historic Bricktown while supporting a great cause. Registration begins at Sonic Plaza at 11 am for the run and 12:30 for the walk. Governor Henry and the city have issued a proclamation that September 19th is AIDS Walk Day in the City of Oklahoma City.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among Oklahoma youth between the ages of 10-24. Additionally, suicide among the elderly is a very serious problem and in the last decade, Oklahoma has ranked in the top 15 states for suicide related deaths.
