OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – The Paseo Arts District’s First Friday Gallery Walk for 2019 will be held on January 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. The evening will include over 20 galleries featuring more than 80 artists who will host opening receptions. During this free event, visitors will find a variety of art, gift items, and apparel perfect to ring in the New Year.

“We are so excited about all of the new additions we’ll have this year – several new restaurants, retail and more art.” said Amanda Bleakley, Paseo Arts Association executive director. “Paseo is the place to be for 2019 and there’s no better place to buy art on First Friday or all year long.”

During January, the Paseo Art Space will feature artists Yeon-Ok Lee and her son, photographer David Lee. This duo exhibition will be on display in the Paseo Art Space, at 3022 Paseo, from January 4 to January 26.

Yeon-Ok Lee is hosting her second exhibition at the Paseo Art Space. Her new body of work is entitled, Community: Building One Another. In this exhibition she incorporates mixed media to create abstract works that convey “that one small seemingly insignificant part of structure can be vital to the structure as a whole.

David conveys his message of storytelling through photography. In his new exhibition, themed Storybook, he shares stories of his subjects using three themes: people, places and things.

“My son is a photo-enthusiasts who loves to travel,” Yeon-Ok told The City Sentinel. “I had noticed his love for art and his storytelling abilities in his photography, so I encouraged him to become a member of Paseo Art Space gallery.

“It’s amazing for us to have a similar love for fine arts,” she continued. “We can then have much deeper and insightful conversations through our mutual interests. And my current plan is to move back to Korea and work as a full-time artist there after this exhibition. Therefore, this duo exhibition is very special to us. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity from Paseo Art Association.”

The public is invited to the opening reception for Yeon-Ok and David during the First Friday event of 2019, on Jan. 4 starting at 6 p.m.

During the Gallery Walk guests will have the opportunity to try a variety of post holiday noshes. Some galleries will offer free lite refreshments and two food trucks will be available.

A new addition to the district is OSO on Paseo. OSO offers traditional Mexican street tacos, vegan and vegetarian-friendly entrees, a variety of sides, plus signature cocktails for casual dining and special occasions. Now serving brunch on Saturday and Sunday, OSO is open for lunch and dinner every day of the week.

The Paseo is Oklahoma City’s most unique arts destination, located between NW 27th & 30th Streets and Walker & Hudson. Each First Friday, Paseo galleries offer special themed exhibits, refreshments, guest artists and a variety of live entertainment – all within walking distance.

Six restaurants and a variety of shops make up Paseo’s distinctive atmosphere.  The event will take place rain or shine. Leashed pets are welcome.
