Staff Report

Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano sent a letter to Gov. Mary Fallin on behalf of Pope Francis,  in regard to the scheduled execution of Oklahoma death row inmate Richard Glossip.

Despite the request, Fallin does not have the legal authority to move the execution, said Alex Weintz, communications director for Fallin.

Gov. Fallin does, however, have the power to grant a 60 day stay of execution.

Glossip is scheduled to be executed Wednesday afternoon.

Here is a copy of the letter sent to Fallin dated September 19, 2015.
