A wildly successful post-tornado effort will result in donation of approximately 100 band instruments to benefit the Moore public school band program. The Oklahoma City Jazz Orchestra coordinated the effort that has brought together businesses, music fans and school patrons to replace instruments destroyed when the May 20 tornado devastated Highland East Junior High School.

Monday afternoon, August 12, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., the effort will continue with a 30+ minute performance by the city jazz orchestra, followed by presentations and speeches from those who have participated in the effort. The event is being held in conjunction with the Moore Public Schools Board of Education Meeting, at Central Junior High Auditorium, 400 N. Broadway in Moore.

Beyond the broad impact throughout the Moore system, the program will be of special benefit to three students who lost their personal instruments when the storm shattered the school site.

Supporters of the drive include Cash America International, Inc., and BancFirst, where supporters brought instruments for direct support of the drive to restore needed instrument for the band program.

Cash America is described as a specialty financial services company, which includes 17 stores across Oklahoma under the “Cash America Pawn” brand. Officials with the company say their “corporate citizenship” efforts focus on education, financial literacy, public safety, families in need, disaster relief and the military.

Monday’s event will include representatives from Cash America, the Oklahoma City Jazz Orchestra and the Moore Public Schools, organizers told The City Sentinel. More information about the jazz orchestra, including the upcoming season, is available Online at: http://our-infoweb.com/cmsv3/ .
