Staff Report

The YWCA is currently seeking donations until Dec. 10 for their Santa Store, to allow children the opportunity to shop for their mothers, and mothers the opportunity to shop for their child. The Santa Store is set up in such a way that allows women and children the power of choice. It empowers them by allowing them to make the decision and experience the joy of giving to the ones they love. Donations can include everything from board games and toys to clothing, makeup and Wal-Mart and Target gift cards.

The holiday season is upon us and it’s important to remember that many women and children in our community don’t have a safe place to call home due to domestic violence and abuse. With the YWCA Oklahoma City at capacity 100 percent of the time, the holiday season can be an extremely lonely and hard time for those unable to go home because of abuse. YWCA Oklahoma City has efforts in place to help those women and children not only rebuild their lives after abuse, but get in the Christmas spirit as well.

The public is encouraged to donate unwrapped gifts and drop them off at the YWCA administration building, 2460 N.W. 39 St., Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The deadline for receiving items is Dec. 10. For more information on giving, contact Courtney Hamar at (405) 951-3381 or chamar@ywcaokc.org. The YWCA is also seeking volunteers. For volunteer information, contact Beatrice Johnston at (405) 424-4623 or bjohnston@ywcaokc.org.
