First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City will premiere “It’s A Wonderful Life — The Musical,” a live stage version of America’s favorite holiday movie, Thursday Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. at the church, 1201 N Robinson.
The show will continue at 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 9, 10 and 11).

Its composer, Bruce Greer, and his wife, Kim Greer, are producing the musical. Bruce Greer, a Dove award-winning composer, arranger and pianist, wrote the show in 1998 with his friend, lyricist Keith Ferguson.
For this year’s show, Ferguson will join the cast to play the role of Mr. Potter, the miserly Bedford Falls banker who plays a central role in the tale. Bruce Greer will direct the show’s orchestra.

“We sold out three performances in 2010, so we’ve added an additional night for this year,” said Kim Greer. “We’re also thrilled to welcome Keith Ferguson to our cast. This classic story appeals to people of all ages, faiths and situations, and the musical version adds a new dimension to its message. Audiences will find characters to fall in love with and come away with a renewed appreciation for friends, family and faith.”
The musical ran at Dallas’ Majestic Theater for five consecutive years and has played in more than 30 states throughout the U.S over the past 12 years.

Last year’s holiday season production was a stunning success for the downtown/Midtown congregation, featuring members of the church in realistic portrayals of personalities remembered from the classic Frank Capra motion picture – and recognizable from everyday life in Oklahoma City.

The financial stress America has faced since the Great Recession began in 2008 gives this story, rooted in the Great Depression, deep resonance and authenticity.

Greer and Ferguson recently signed an agreement with Playscripts of New York City to add “It’s a Wonderful Life – The Musical” to its licensing catalog. The Greers moved to Oklahoma City in 2008 to serve as ministers of music for FBCOKC.

Tickets are $10 general admission and can be purchased through the church office at 405-232-4255 or the event website at www.iawlokc.com. Group rates are available for groups of 10 or more. Child care for children under age 5 is available by reservation. Call the church office for details
