Oklahoma City University’s American Spirit Dance Company will put audiences in the Christmas spirit this year with the beauty and splendor of a Broadway-style holiday dance spectacular, “Home for the Holidays.”
Hailed as “the most lavish Christmas dance extravaganza west of New York City,” the show returns to the Kirkpatrick Auditorium at Oklahoma City University Dec. 8 to 11.

Directed by OCU Dance Chairwoman Jo Rowan, the renowned dance company will present a sensational array of new dances intertwined with perennial audience favorites. Rowan and her colleagues says the show has something for everyone- and of all ages. The audience will thrill to the high-energy tap and jazz presentations with bears, penguins, dolls and Santa, and the sparkling beauty of ballet “Song for a Winter’s Night.”

The show captures the spirit of the season with a cast of 160 dancers and hundreds of colorful costumes. The production includes rocking swing numbers, exciting country music cloggers, the high-kicking enthusiasm of a chorus line of 50 Santa’s helpers and a Nativity of Christ’s birth that will fill the stage with reverence and the true meaning of Christmas.

“This year we present two kick-line productions that rival any seen on Broadway,” Rowan said. “The costumes are breathtaking and the state-of-the-art lighting produces a transcendent mood and magical experience.”

Show times are 8 p.m. Dec. 8, 9 and 10, and 2 p.m. Dec. 10=11. The show is recommended for audience members ages 6 and up. All seats are reserved and cost $28 each. Group rates are available. For tickets or more information, call (405) 208-5227 or visit www.okcu.edu/ticketoffice.

Rowan founded The American Spirit Dance Company in 1981 to celebrate America’s unique contributions to dance through jazz, tap and musical theater and to provide students with professional performance opportunities. The company is critically acclaimed in the U.S. and overseas and has become one of the premier performing ensembles in central Oklahoma.
